How to drive traffic to get our first sales

We have launched a website with natural products from New Zealand and the plan is to sell internationally. We am researching the best and most economical method to establish an audience and appreciate any suggestions from others who have been down this path and built a customer base. I am guessing it's a common problem to spend quite an amount of money developing the products and website and then when you need customers the budget is limited for say social media ads.
